Making our way over top of Alaska for a work trip to Asia, the view of the white-capped mountains is stunning. I also had the perfect song for this moment - Teen Daze - Alaska. Instant nostalgia.
Seeing an ocean beach for the first time was kinda dizzying. I had a profound sense of, "Wow, I finally made it.. it took me 25 years, but I finally made it here despite Crohn's disease and many other challenges. Damn, it's so colorful!". That was one of the happiest moments of my life, reaching paradise.
If you ever visit Vietnam, you'll notice people don't go to the beach during the day. The beach in Da Nang was ususally busy around 5.00am, and 4.00pm. The locals there are very mindful when it comes to UV ray exposure. You'll also notice most motorcyclists wearing thick sweaters with their hoods up.
It's initially a frightening experience to drive over bridges like these, but after two or three go's, it's pretty fun. Renting a motorcycle in Da Nang was incredibly cheap too.
I had a newer Honda Air Blade that I rented for under $5.00CAD/day. In the future, I'll probably make a post specifically about riding motorcycles in Vietnam.
When I visited Chicago, I stayed at a hostel located in Lincoln Park. My plan was to visit the city for a weekend, travel to Wisconsin for a five day work week, then return for another weekend in the city. Once I returned for my second weekend at the hostel, I noticed a man, one I had seen the week before, still sitting in the kitchen's dining area. It was as if he'd been there the whole week. I was curious about it, so I struck up a conversation, asking what he's been doing there for so long. It turns out, he lives nearby. He told me rents out his apartment on AirBnb for $200 USD a night on weekends, and stays at the hostel for $50. He was quite the character.
It was most peaceful riding a motocycle around this beautiful countryside of limestone karsts in the rain. I’d love to do it again, but next time for much longer, as I only dedicated a few hours to it before going into the city of Ninh Binh to find size 12 sandals, which just like in every city in Hunan, China, was impossible.
This river is a spiritual place for me. I often gaze out and feel a connection to the sky, and the landscape.
Took the train to Toronto to see Airiel perform. Impromptu visits to North American cities always leads me towards bad attempts at killing time.
More like “middle of nowhere” county, this place felt like it could be wiped off the face of the Earth, and hardly anyone would notice, Chinese people included.
ZhengJiaJie was the innermost destination I had visited on my trip to China with my Chinese friends. We took a gondola up the mountain to view the “door in the sky”, where this temple was located.
